The Weather

Located in Southern China, Hong Kong has a sub-tropical climate with average temperatures ranging from 12°C to 20°C during Dec. The temperature can drop below 10°C in urban areas. Weather information is obtainable from the Hong Kong Observatory.

The local time in Hong Kong is GMT +8.


Passport & Visa Requirement

Visitors to Hong Kong should hold a passport with at least six months' validity. Nationals of most countries are not required to obtain visas for periods varying from seven days to 180 days. Please note that a visa is required for some nationalities. The Organizer is NOT responsible for your individual visa arrangement. China Zone

Participants planning to travel to mainland China should make their own visa arrangement. China visa can be processed in Hong Kong and normally takes three working days and one passport-sized photo. Visas can be obtained through the Visa Office of People's Republic of China, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong, China Travel Service (HK) Ltd, or China International Travel Service HK Ltd.


Getting Around

Hong Kong is geographically compact and the public transport system (bus, ferry, or train) is efficient, relatively inexpensive and user friendly. Road signs in Hong Kong are bilingual in both English and Chinese.

Octopus Card











The Octopus card is extremely useful in Hong Kong as it allows you to access all public transport and pay for items in convenience stores and some restaurants. You can buy one from any MTR station and then get the balance and deposit back when you leave.


Currency

Hong Kong's unit of currency is the Hong Kong dollar (HK$) which is tied to the US dollar at an exchange rate of about HK$7.8 to US$1. Most foreign currencies and travelers cheques are easily changed at banks, hotels and moneychangers. Credit cards are widely accepted at major hotels, large restaurants, department stores and shops.
