Our Course:

Hong Kong's ageing population and rising musculoskeletal needs make healthy ageing, functional independence and community rehabilitation urgent priorities. The MSc MRGO builds workforce capacity in musculoskeletal care, geriatric orthopaedics and rehabilitation across hospital, primary care and community settings, aligning with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, and major HKSAR policy directions in primary healthcare, healthy ageing and smart rehabilitation.

This consolidated MSc program combines our previous offerings: the MSc in Musculoskeletal Medicine and Rehabilitation and the MSc in Geriatric Orthopaedics, both established in 2017.

The latest course structure since 2024/25

To enhance flexibility in module selection, the Streaming Policy was phased out starting with the 2024/25 admissions. Students admitted from now on will have the freedom to select elective courses without being restricted to a specific stream of study.(click the chart below to see the details)

Target Students:

This program aims to provide advanced academic training for professionals working closely with musculoskeletal disorders and geriatric orthopedic issues. Participants may include medical doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, other allied healthcare professionals, researchers, and community practitioners.

Admission timelines:

Applications open in early September via the Graduate School Office website [here]. The application deadlines are 30 April for full-time study and 31 May for part-time study.

Our programme reviews applications periodically. Candidates are typically considered for nomination in late January to early February, late March to early April, and late May. Interviews may be arranged if needed.

Our programme has been consistently selected for prestigious government scholarships, including the “Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme” (TTPPFS) for four consecutive years (2021/22 – 2024/25).

We are also proud to share that our programme successfully obtained the "Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies" (FTSS) in the 2025/26 intake, demonstrating strong alignment with Hong Kong's strategic priorities in healthcare, ageing, rehabilitation and innovation.

Student Projects:

Students are required to develop a project in the form of a systematic review, meta-analysis, retrospective study, preliminary research, or randomized controlled trial. Below is the list of projects from the previous five cohorts.
